Ceramic Guides, Yarn Guides and Wire Guides Materials
1 ALUMINA:
Our A 997 Alumina contains 99.7 % Alumina. It is very yarn-friendly, fine-grained,
and highly wear-resistant owing to its very high hardness. It can be polished to
extremely low roughness, less than 0.1 Micron Ra. It is available in Russet and
Ivory tints. Our A997 Alumina is ideal for applications with high speeds and high
tensions. Recommended for texturizing machinery, winders, and spinning machinery;
synthetic micro-yarns, coarse and hard synthetic yarns, glass, carbon, and silk;
nylon cords and ropes, tyre cords, metal wires, metal cables. Typical Properties:

2 TITANIA:
Titania has a surface that is most friendly and tender towards the yarn, because
of its grain and crystal structure. It is ideal for delicate yarns. It is softer
than Alumina, so life will be less. Recommended for texturizing machinery. table

3. CONDUCTIVE TITANIA:
This black-coloured Titania has a conductive surface, which conducts away static
electricity generated in processing the yarn. This Conductive Titania is most friendly
and tender towards the yarn, because of its special grain and crystal structure.
It is ideal for silk, carbon, glass and micro yarns. It is softer than Alumina,
so life will be less. Recommended for texturizing machinery, synthetic micro-yarns,
silk, glass, and carbon fibers.

4 Zirconia:
Zirconia is as yarn-friendly as Titania, and has high hardness, toughness and is
very wear resistant. Owing to its very high cost, it is only used for special applications.

5 W08 TUNGSTEN CARBIDE:
Our Tungsten Carbide has high hardness, toughness, and is very wear-resistant. It
has good thermal conductivity and some electrical conductivity, owing to its small
metal content. Recommended for metal wire machinery.

Thread guides, to perform best, need the correct surface roughness and topography.
Each of the materials we offer is finished to the correct roughness needed, not
necessarily the lowest one.
Our ceramic parts can be supplied in these finishes:
- Smooth Satin. This is a rumbled matt surface, with a light sheen. Roughness will
be about 0.6 Micron Ra.
- Diamond-polished to 0.25-0.4 Micron Ra.
- Highly polished (to low Ra values, e.g. 0.1 Micron).
- Diamond polished, with low friction properties. Normally diamond polishing increases
the contact area between the yarn and the ceramic. In this polishing method, both
the roughness and the contact area are reduced, leading to lower friction. This
is available only in the A 997 Alumina ceramic.
